TRIATLON

Triathlon

Men and women first competed in triathlon at the Games on the Isle of Man in 2001, and it has featured in several Games since then.

Competition Format

The competition will follow the format of a Sprint Triathlon.

Venue

The triathlon event is scheduled to take place in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. Due to consistently low sea temperatures, the swimming portion will be held indoors at the newly opened swimming facility in Tórshavn Aquatics Centre.

The swimming portion will be held in the new 10-lane 50 metre pool with a dividing wall and an additional 6-lane 25 metre pool.

Useful Information

Because sea temperatures consistently fall below the minimum threshold required by World Triathlon regulations, the swim portion will not take place in open water. Instead, the organisers, in agreement with the Island Games triathlon technical committee, have opted for an indoor swim format. This decision ensures compliance with international safety standards, allowing the event to proceed smoothly.

Triathlon in the Faroe Islands

Triathlon is a growing sport in the Faroe Islands. It is governed by the Cycling and Triathlon Federation, which also oversees road cycling and mountain biking.

In recent years more athletes have taken part in both local and international triathlon events, and there is an increasing interest in developing the sport further across the islands.
