Swimming in the Faroe Islands
Faroese swimming has developed significantly since the Faroese Swimming Federation was founded in December 1980. There are currently seven member clubs.
Since the turn of the millennium, Faroese swimmers have reached many historic milestones in international competition. Most notably, Pál Joensen became the first Faroese swimmer to compete at the Olympic Games – in London 2012 and Rio 2016.
Many Faroese swimmers continue to achieve strong results in international meets each year.
The federation regularly hosts international events and meets, particularly in the Nordic region.
