28.02.2024

It is now confirmed that Solby A. Christiansdóttir will prepare and coordinate the Island Games, which will be held in the Faroe Islands in 2027. She is especially known from the Faroese Broadcasting Corporation (Kringvarpið), where she has, among other things, covered sports

The Island Games have a special significance for the Faroese people. This was evident in the reactions when it was announced that the Games would return to the Faroe Islands in 2027. It was also evident in the number of applications received by ÍSF when they sought personnel to coordinate and organize the Island Games in '27.

"This is a large and exciting task to undertake, and probably the largest event ever held in the Faroe Islands. It is crucial that it is well organized – and we are very pleased to announce that Solby Christiansdóttir will be in charge of organizing the Island Games. She knows the sports world, both as an athlete, coach, and journalist. We are convinced that Solby has the right qualities and skills required to prepare, coordinate, and manage the Island Games, now that they are returning to the Faroe Islands," says Elin H. Joensen, President of ÍSF.

The main task of the new coordinator will initially be to communicate with the federations and various sports in the Faroe Islands, which will obviously play a major role in organizing the competitions.

Large and Complex Task

The task also includes communication with the political system, municipalities, the International Island Games Association, and the other Island Games nations.

She will coordinate the content and framework of the Games, and she will be responsible for all logistics – both regarding competitions, training, and not least accommodation, as an influx of athletes, support staff, and spectators is expected to come to the Faroe Islands.

The tasks are many, and the new coordinator is looking forward to starting the work.

"The Island Games have always had a special place in my sporting heart, and therefore it was great news when it was announced that the Games would return to the Faroe Islands. And it is an honor for me to have received the trust from ÍSF to manage the Games," says Solby A. Christiansdóttir.

The position as Island Games coordinator is a full-time job, and Solby A. Christiansdóttir will take up the position on May 1st.
