Sculpture Installed in the Gundadalur Swimming Pool

03.12.2025

The sculpture A Sporting Chance for Peace created by sculptor Donald Brown has been installed in the Gundadalur swimming pool as part of the preparations for the Faroe Islands hosting the 2027 Island Games.

The sculpture, titled A Sporting Chance for Peace, is created by sculptor Donald Brown.

In essence, the piece brings together sport and art to promote peace, tolerance, and community.

During the 2023 Island Games in Guernsey, the sculpture was presented as a gift to the International Island Games Association (IIGA). After the Games, it was moved to Kirkwall in Orkney, where it was displayed in the Pickaquoy sports centre until the 2025 Games were concluded.

The organisers in Orkney then arranged for the sculpture to be transported to the Faroe Islands and to Tórshavn, where it will be displayed as a tribute and reminder of the Betri International Island Games 2027, taking place from 3–9 July 2027.

Elin Heðinsdóttir Joensen, President of The Faroese Confederation of Sports and Olympic Committee, and Eyðun Húsgarð, Head of the swimming pool, were present to view the installation.

When the International Betri Island Games are over, the sculpture will be sent on to the Isle of Man, the host of the 2029 Games.
