Poula Michelsen Appointed Deputy Games Director

08.07.2025

Poula Michelsen from Tórshavn has been appointed Deputy Games Director for the Betri International Island Games 2027.

In this role, she will lead the overall planning and coordination of the sports programme, working closely with all 14 national sports federations to ensure that each competition is delivered to a high standard — under the best possible conditions and in line with official rules.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity and excited to work with the many talented people who will come together to make the Betri Island Games a success,” says Poula Michelsen. “It’s truly special that the Faroe Islands get to host the Games again — this will give our sports communities unforgettable experiences. It’s also a chance to prove ourselves as a modern and well-organised sporting nation.”

The Betri Island Games will be the largest event ever hosted in the Faroe Islands. In addition to the sporting events, a wide range of other elements must come together — including accommodation, logistics, safety, volunteers, ceremonies, and more.

As Deputy Games Director, Poula will also support the coordination of some of these broader areas in close collaboration with Games Director Solby Christiansdóttir.

“Poula brings a wealth of experience in leadership, coordination, marketing, and communication — all of which will be a great benefit to the Betri Island Games,” says Solby Christiansdóttir. “I’m truly pleased that we have such a highly capable person joining the team. With Poula as Deputy Games Director, the sporting side of the Games is in very good hands.”

Poula Michelsen will begin in her role on 1 September 2025. The position will be part-time (40%) until the end of the year and full-time from 1 January 2026.
