Member Islands Arrive for Pre-Visit
30.06.2026
Preparations for the Betri International Island Games 2027 are entering a new phase as the Faroe Islands welcome representatives from 22 of the 24 member islands of the IIGA for the official pre-visit ahead of next year's Games.
Taking place from 2–6 July, the pre-visit gives each island the opportunity to learn more about the planning and organisation of the Games, while allowing the organisers to present the venues, logistics and services that will welcome around 3,000 athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers in July 2027.
Throughout the visit, delegates will receive presentations on the sports programme, competition venues, accommodation, catering, transport, medical services, safety and security, the volunteer programme, travel to the Faroe Islands and other key areas. They will also visit venues across the country to see the facilities first-hand.
The programme begins on Friday, 3 July—exactly one year before the Opening Ceremony at Tórsvøllur (the National Football Stadium). On Friday, delegates will visit venues in the municipalities of Vágar and Klaksvík. Saturday's programme includes visits to Tórshavn in the morning and Runavík in the afternoon, while Sunday's venue tour focuses on Tórsvøllur and the sports facilities in Gundadalur.
At each venue, representatives from the respective sports associations will present their competitions, while the host municipalities will welcome the visiting delegations.
The pre-visit also provides an opportunity for the Faroe Islands to showcase themselves as hosts. Alongside the practical preparations for the Games, delegates will experience the country's scenery, culture and hospitality, while meeting the people behind the organisation of the Betri Island Games 2027.
On Sunday afternoon, the IIGA will hold its Annual General Meeting, a regular part of the official pre-visit programme.
Most delegates will return home on Monday, 6 July.
The Betri Island Games 2027 will take place across the Faroe Islands from 3–9 July 2027.
