The Faroe Islands are now preparing to host the 2027 Island Games. As part of this process, the IIGA, the International Island Games Association, is visiting the Faroe Islands for several days to inspect the island nation that will host the Island Games in the summer of 2027.
This is a working visit, during which the committee will visit most of the sports halls, stadiums, and facilities that are considered suitable for use during the Games in the Faroe Islands. They will also meet with representatives from national and municipal authorities, sports associations, and the Faroese Confederation of Sports (ÍSF).
The purpose is to showcase the sporting facilities to the committee, as well as to highlight the facilities that either need renovation or are under construction.
Meeting with the Prime Minister
The committee will also meet with the Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands, Aksel V. Johannesen, who is also the patron of sports, and Sirið Stenberg, the Minister of Culture, who oversees sports. Additionally, the committee will meet with the mayors of Tórshavn, Runavík, Klaksvík, and Vágar municipalities, as well as other authorities.
The Faroese Confederation of Sports (ÍSF) is hosting the IIGA during their stay in the Faroe Islands. The delegation will depart on Monday, April 22nd.
The Island Games are the largest sporting event in the Faroe Islands, and they will be held from July 3rd to 9th, 2027.
