Hotel Brandan donates pillows to the Games

Between 2,700 and 3,000 guests are expected to visit the Faroe Islands for the 2027 Betri International Island Games. Thanks to Hotel Brandan, the first steps have been taken to ensure our guests will enjoy a good night’s sleep during the Games. The hotel is currently replacing its pillows and has kindly donated the previous ones to the Games.

“We are a four-star hotel, so quality is a top priority, and we must comply with certain maintenance standards,” says Jónina Tegeder, Housekeeping Manager at Hotel Brandan.

Hotel Brandan has previously donated various items to institutions in the Faroe Islands. This time, the recipient is the Betri Island Games 2027.

“I suggested donating the pillows to the Island Games, since thousands of people will be visiting the country in the summer of 2027. Many thought it was a great idea, and we got in touch with the Games team, who were very happy to accept them,” Jónina Tegeder explains.

Green Key certification

In September 2020, Hotel Brandan received the Green Key certification, an international eco-label awarded to tourism businesses that meet specific environmental and sustainability standards. This environmental focus was also part of the decision to donate the pillows, Jónina explains.

The donation includes between 200 and 230 pillows, and the replacement process is being done in stages, as it’s not possible to replace all the pillows at once.

Supporting the community

For Jónina Tegeder, it is important that the hotel contributes to the largest event ever hosted in the Faroe Islands:

“We are very happy to support the Games – it means a lot to us. We also hope that other companies and organisations will find ways to contribute as well. If not with pillows, then perhaps with other items that are too often thrown away instead of being reused.”

One of the core values of the Betri Island Games is to make the event as environmentally friendly as possible. Hotel Brandan’s donation is a clear step in that direction.
