Ynys Môn

Ynys Môn

Ynys Môn (Anglesey) is an island off the northwest coast of Wales, and it is the largest island in both Wales and the Irish Sea. The island is connected to the mainland by two bridges crossing the Menai Strait.

The largest town is Caergybi (Holyhead), which is also a major ferry port to Ireland. Llangefni serves as the administrative centre, and Amlwch is among the largest settlements.

Agriculture, energy, and tourism are key pillars of the local economy. The coastline is known for its natural beauty, and several of the island’s smaller surrounding islets are protected bird sanctuaries.

On Ynys Môn, more than half of the population speaks Welsh (over 57%), and both Welsh and English are official languages.
