Sark

Sark

Sark is a small island in the Channel Islands, part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey. It lies in the English Channel, about 11 kilometres from Guernsey, and consists of Greater Sark and Little Sark.

Sark has a unique historical status and was governed under a feudal system until 2008. Today, it has its own elected parliament, known as the Chief Pleas, and its own judicial system, while Guernsey is responsible for policing and higher courts.

Cars are banned on Sark’s roads, and the only motor vehicles allowed are tractors. Horse-drawn carriages and bicycles are common forms of transport. There is no airport, but the island is accessible by boat.

Agriculture and tourism are the main industries, but accommodation is limited, so most visitors come on day trips.
