Jersey
Formally known as the Bailiwick of Jersey, Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands, located in the English Channel just off the northwest coast of France. It is a self-governing Crown Dependency but not part of the United Kingdom.
The capital is St. Helier, and the island’s economy is primarily based on financial services. Jersey has its own parliament, legal system, and government, while the UK is responsible for defence and international relations.
Culturally, Jersey reflects both British and French influences. While English is the main language, Jèrriais – a historic Norman dialect – has cultural and historical significance. French influence is also seen in many place names across the island.
