Isle of Wight
The Isle of Wight is a British island in the English Channel, located just off the coast of Hampshire. It is the largest island in England and is often simply referred to as “The Island” by locals. With its mild climate and lush landscapes of farmland, heath, and cliffs, it is a popular holiday destination.
The town of Newport, located in the centre of the island, is the main commercial hub, while Ryde, the largest town, is home to the oldest pier in England.
Tourism is the island’s largest industry, and it is well known for its music festivals and Victorian-era heritage sites. The maritime sector and light industry, such as boatbuilding and sailcloth production, have also played an important role.
The Isle of Wight has ferry connections to the mainland, but no major airport.
