Guernsey
Guernsey is the second-largest of the Channel Islands in the English Channel, and the largest island in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, which also includes five other islands: Alderney, Herm, Jethou, Lihou, and Sark, along with several smaller islets and rocks.
Guernsey is governed as part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, a self-governing Crown Dependency. This means it is not part of the United Kingdom, although the UK government retains responsibility for certain matters, such as defence and international representation.
The island is divided into ten parishes, and the capital is Saint Peter Port.
Financial services are the backbone of Guernsey’s economy, while tourism and agriculture also play important roles.
Guernsey’s culture is heavily influenced by Britain, and English is the predominant language. However, Guernésiais – also known as Norman French or Guernsey French – is still spoken by some islanders as a traditional mother tongue.
