Greenland
Greenland is the world’s largest island and was granted self-rule in 2009. It is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, along with the Faroe Islands. The majority of the Greenlandic population lives along the coast in the island’s largest towns – including the capital, Nuuk.
Around 80% of Greenland is covered by ice, and most travel between settlements takes place by air or sea, as there is no road network connecting towns and villages. Greenlandic society is largely self-sufficient, with a strong focus on ensuring welfare across all sectors.
Fishing accounts for the vast majority of exports, while Greenland is working to develop other industries, such as tourism and mining. The education system includes both vocational and higher education, with the University of Greenland (Ilisimatusarfik) located in Nuuk.
