Frøya
Frøya is an island in Frøya Municipality, located in Trøndelag County, Norway. It lies within a large archipelago in the Frøyhavet Sea, northwest of the Trondheimsfjord. To the south of the island lies the Frøyafjord, which separates Frøya from the larger island of Hitra, which also competes in the Island Games.
Frøya and its neighbouring island Hitra are connected by the Frøya Tunnel, and Hitra is further connected to the Norwegian mainland via the Hitra Tunnel. Frøya is the westernmost municipality in Trøndelag County. It is part of the Fosen region and includes the main island of Frøya as well as thousands of smaller islands surrounding it.
The village of Sistranda serves as the administrative centre of Frøya Municipality. Salmon farming is one of the area’s most important industries.
